1. You’re a singer who moves easily between dance and rock, using something from folk. You feel at ease with funny lyrics and at the same time create poetry in the form of music. Is that the Morten Abel style?

Ive always had interest in many forms of music, jazz and classical, but since Im not an schooled musician I ended up doing what I do, and that gives me the freedom of have some fun, make noice and be a part of production and arrangements in the studio, wich I enjoy very much. One shall be careful to use humor in contemporary pop music. Ive done it (The Birmingham Ho), but some people get put off by it.

2. What do you think about this interconnected world that enables interviews like this one to be conducted? You have clips on your site and youtube… Is the world really getting smaller?

It’s great, get friends from other parts of the world. And I prefer doing interviews in writing.

3. Is there some heritage from your time at The September When in your solo career?

Yes, I think so. I tried to make my solo albums sound very different from TSW, and I think they do. But Im a melody man, and I think a strong melody links the two projects.

4. You’re now on a tour to show your new album. The public here in Brazil is known for its warmth. (and that comes from before the popularization of global warming!) The audience screams, jumps, sings along. What about in Norway? How is that vibe on the stage?

Well, I think the audience up here is a little different, but they like to drink, and the later it gets the more jumping up and down….

5a. Are there European countries more open to music from other countries?

I think people are the same everywhere. If they hear something they like, something original and true, they will listen to it no matter where it comes from. The problem is to let people know your material, but again, Youtube and the sorts has loosened that up a bit.

5b. Is there some kind of captive audience for music from Norway?

I know the italians buys a lot of norwegian music…

6. Sorry for this question, but did you really catch malaria in the Amazon? Those must have been tough times. I’m already down when I catch a cold.

I did, but I was only down for couple of days. Im fine now. Thanks, Eric

1. Você é um cantor que se move fácil entre as batidas dançantes e o rock, usando um pouco de folk. Você se sente confortável com letras divertidas e ao mesmo tempo cria poesia em forma de música. Esse é o estilo Morten Abel?

Eu sempre tive interesse em muitas formas de música, fosse clássica ou jazz, mas como eu não sou músico por formação eu acabei fazendo esse tipo de trabalho, o que me dá a liberdade de me divertir, fazer barulho e participar da produção e dos arranjos no estúdio, que é algo que eu gosto muito. Deve-se tomar cuidado ao usar humor na música pop contemporânea. É algo que já fiz (The Birmingham Ho), mas isso incomodou algumas pessoas.

2. O que você acha desse mundo interconectado que permite entrevistas como essa? Você tem clipes em seu site, youtube… O mundo está mesmo ficando pequeno?

Isso é ótimo, fazer amigos de outras partes do mundo. E eu prefiro responder entrevistas por escrito.

3. Sua carreira solo herdou algo dos tempos no The September When?

Sim, eu acho que sim. Eu tentei fazer meus álbuns solo soarem muito diferentes do TSW, e acho que consegui. Mas eu sou um homem de melodia, e acho que uma melodia forte conecta os dois projetos.

4. Você está em turnê agora. O público aqui no Brasil é conhecido pela animação. As pessoas gritam, pulam, cantam junto. E na Noruega? Como é a energia no show?

Bem, eu acho que o público aqui é um pouco diferente, mas eles gostam de beber… e quanto mais tarde fica mais eles pulam para cima e para baixo.

5. Os países europeus são mais abertos a músicas de outros países?

Eu acho que as pessoas são as mesmas em qualquer lugar. Se elas ouvem algo de que elas gostam, algo verdadeiro e original, então elas vão escutar, não importa da onde venha a música. O problema é fazer o material chegar até as pessoas. Mas, novamente, Youtube e similares facilitaram isso um pouco.

Existe um público mais aberto à música da Noruega?

Eu sei que os italianos compram bastante música norueguesa.

6. Desculpe a pergunta, mas você pegou mesmo malária na Amazônia? Devem ter sido dias difíceis. Eu já fico mal com um resfriado.

Sim, mas eu só fiquei mal alguns dias. Estou bem agora.
